Kathy supports our CA affiliates in driving transformational campaigns that help us build a multiracial feminist democracy.
As a child of refugees escaping US imperialist war, Kathy is called to do this work as an expression of her hope and love for all people who struggle for dignity.
Prior to joining PowerSwitch Action, Kathy started as a union organizer with the NY Hotel & Motel Trades Council AFL-CIO / Local 6 Unite-Here in NYC. After 7 years at the hotel workers union, she transitioned to Los Angeles where she led the Restaurant Opportunities Center Los Angeles affiliate.
One of the many highlights during Kathy's time with PowerSwitch Action is when WPUSA, LAANE, and WWRC all threw down together at an action at the office of the developer Hillwood to take a stand against unchecked Amazon expansion in the Inland Empire.
Kathy has written for KCRW, NPR’s flagship member station in Southern California; spoken at news conferences about raising the minimum wage in Los Angeles; debated the need to raise the minimum wage in LA; was featured in the Fall 2018 publication of Fair World Project; and spoken about labor organizing, and worker and immigrant rights.
Outside of work, Kathy enjoys gardening, learning nail art, spending time with her kids, and observing California's native birds and plants.
